The Glowlight tetra is a wonderful addition to any fresh water aquarium.
Normally found in the tropical Essequibo River in Guyana, South America, the Glowlight tetra has a silvery body that is decorated with a very bright stripe running from the tale to the snout.
The color of the stripe can vary from orange to red, and is duplicated on the front of the dorsal fins.
The Glowlight tetra should be kept with at least four other fish of the same species, due to its shoaling nature.
If possible, keeping a larger shoal than four is highly recommended because this will make them feel safer in your aquarium.
On top of that, this larger shoal will make them more active.
They will form smaller groups if there is a predator, or even just a perceived predator, in the tank.
They will usually swam a few centimeters above the bottom of your tank.
But during feeding they will quickly swim to the top.
They often live for up to 2 to 4 years in captivity.
This is a peaceful fish and can readily be combined with other species that aren't aggressive and are roughly the same size.
The Cardinal tetra is a good match to keep together with this the Glowlight tetra.
When kept together they will often form separate shoals that swim alongside each other.
This looks really amazing in an aquarium.
The minimum recommended aquarium size for this species is 24 inches.
Your aquarium should attempt to mimic their natural habitat, so include numerous plants, especially fine leaved plants, but make sure that you save space for open swimming also.
