Let's face it your cat is a habitual beggar.
Most cats, unless trained otherwise, will be at your feet when you go to the dinner table begging for something to eat.
While the little bit of chicken or turkey you slip to your cat will not kill it you will see your cats appetite for the supplement enriched foods you normally feed your cat will decrease.
Your cats health depends on a proper diet and the proper supplements to maintain it's health.
Also you need to remember that some of the things we eat are harmful to your cat.
That gravy on your turkey may contain onions which are deadly to cats.
Some of the foods harmful to your cats health are noted below.
Onions, garlic and related root vegetables Onions contain (N-propyl disulphide) a substance that destroys the red blood cells in your cats body leading to a form of anemia known as Heinz body anemia.
Garlic also contains a similar substance in a lesser amount.
Green tomatoes and raw potatoes These foods are a part of the Solanaceae family of plants and contain a bitter, poisonous alkaloid Glycoalkaloid Solanine that causes a violent lower gastrointestinal disturbance.
The leaves and stems are particularly toxic to your cat.
(Note that tomatoes in your pets food are ripe and should be of no concern to you) Chocolate It is widely know that chocolate can be very harmful to your cat or dog.
Theobromine is the ingredient in chocolate that is harmful and it can kill your pet in the right dosage.
Grapes and raisins These items are mainly toxic in dogs but you should be aware that there is a potential they could be harmful to your kitty as well.
Milk Although milk is not toxic to your cat you should be aware that it may have adverse effects.
Adult cats if fed a nutritious diet have no need for milk and many cats are lactose intolerant.
This means that the milk may cause gastric problems for your cat including cramps and gas.
If your cat begs for milk it is better to give it a small amount of cream a couple of times a week.
If you think your cat has been poisoned contact your veterinarian immediately.
Remember maintaining your cats health ensures a long happy life for it and improves your enjoyment of your pet.
