How to Keep Awake While Reading
- 1). Stay hydrated while reading by drinking plenty of water. Dehydration can cause you to feel tired, making it harder to stay awake. Occasionally taking a drink of water will also keep you occupied while reading and help keep you awake.
- 2). Take breaks when reading for long periods of time. For instance, if you're reading for two hours, take a 15-minute break every 45 minutes. Take a walk, listen to music, watch TV or do something other than read during this break. This will help keep you fresh and attentive when reading.
- 3). Read in an area that is well-lighted and not overly comfortable. Reading in bed or on a comfortable couch can lead you to fall asleep more easily. Also, sit up rather than lie down while reading.
- 4). Change your position every once in a while or walk around the room occasionally. This will keep your blood flowing and make you more alert when reading.
- 5). Snack occasionally to keep your blood sugar up and help you stay awake while reading.
