Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake
If you have taken a photo of a snake in Maricopa County (Greater Phoenix area) and you'd like to submit the picture to this photo gallery, here's how you do it.
From the photographer: "I took this picture near Wickenburg, AZ and believe this is a Tiger Rattlesnake. This is was taken at night, hence the more “round” pupils. This snake is most likely less than a year old. I was very close to this snake, no rattling or trying to get away."
UPDATE July 2011: A local Herpetologist has advised the About.com Phoenix Guide that is is actually a picture of a Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake (Crotalus mitchelli pyrrhus), not a tiger rattlesnake.
