While the Amici Italian Bistro has been around for a while, its move to a plaza location along Five Mile Road in Plymouth is relatively recent. The restaurant used to be located in a historic house in Plymouth's Old Town neighborhood. While the location gave the restaurant a unique, historic ambiance, it had very limited dining space and parking.

While the new location allows for plenty of tables and plenty of parking spots, the restaurant lost a little atmosphere to the stark, rectangular space designed for retail.

That being said, the owners make good use of colors, accents, lighting and music to create a suitable atmosphere. Amici Italian Bistro's real claim to fame is the quality (and quantity) of its food, which should quickly earn it a loyal following. Given its location between an Asian buffet and a well-known pizza parlor, word should get out fast.

Atmosphere

A double-door vestibule keeps out the winter wind but the windowed storefront provides little in the way of atmosphere. While the restaurant suffers from retail-space limitations – single wall of windows, high ceilings, starkly rectangular space – it manages to give its dining room character through the use of brightly colored walls and accents (yellow, purple), black tablecloths, wall sconces and an open kitchen. A half-wall divider runs the length of the restaurant and effectively creates two dining areas, each with its own wall-mounted TV for those diners who absolutely must catch the game.

Menu

The restaurant has a typical Italian menu with several pasta/ravioli dishes, as well as Chicken, Veal, Steaks and Seafood.

Most dishes come with a choice of soup or salad, and the prices range from $11 to $18 dollars for dinner. The portion sizes of most dishes could easily feed two.

Unlike most Italian restaurants, Amici Italian Bistro is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its breakfast offers an Italian version of breakfast favorites, as well as a several types of Frittatas and griddle items.

Unfortunately, the restaurant does not offer complementary bread while waiting for your meal. Nor does it offer beer, wine or spirits – at least as of this writing.

Food

The Minestrone Soup was thick, hearty and a little spicy. It was chock full of vegetables and beans, the later of which were perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth.

The dinner salad was served as a nice mix of fresh greens. It was simply adorned, which allowed the very tasty Raspberry Vinaigrette to shine.

The Chicken Tosco was served as two large chicken breasts over a bed of egg noodles on a large oval plate. The portion was easily big enough for two. The chicken breasts were topped with a puree of sorts that included the “lemon/garlic” mentioned in the dish's description. It helped to brown one side of the grilled chicken, giving it a slightly crispy texture. It was also extremely tasty. The egg noodles were obviously fresh and homemade, but, while covered in the wine sauce and sliced mushrooms, suffered in comparison to the delicious chicken.

The Linguine in Clam Sauce was also served in a huge portion. The pasta was fresh, the chopped clams plentiful and the sauce delicious.

The Baked Meat Lasagna was covered in sauce and filled with meat, including both ground sirloin and Italian sausage. It was covered in meat sauce.

The Tiramisu was served chilled and topped with plenty of powdered chocolate. It was filled with plenty of creamy mascarpone cheese that made for a light, richly flavored bite.

Service

The waiter was friendly and kept the meal nicely paced and the glasses full. It is obvious that the owners value good service. In fact, an effort is made by the owner to make a connection with each and every diner.
