General Hospital, July 14, 2014: "Still Think It"s a Reflex, Bitch?"

Brain Death and Transplants

On Monday's General Hospital, as I suspected, Rafe's awakening from brain death was all in Nina's fevered brain. This is the kind of thing that makes the general public think someone can return to consciousness after brain death; the heart is still beating, but you are no longer alive.

Speaking of hearts, why is General Hospital doing another transplant story? As far as heroin found in Rafe's system, there are occasions when organs of drug addicts are used in transplantation.

Put it this way: If you were on the desert without water, and someone drove up and offered you a ride in their beat-up old car, would you hold out for a new one or take the ride? I don't know about you, but I'd be in that vehicle in a second.

There simply are not enough organs to go around. There are at GH because the writers can kill someone off and say he or she has the same blood type as the patient. Even in a hospital like the one in Coma, those doctors were harvesting organs and selling them for big bucks on the black market. So the hospital's own patients wouldn't benefit anyway.

Hospitals and countries vary in their policies, but it is possible that, if Rafe's heart is okay, Alice could have it. I frankly don't understand the entire story line. Tracy supposedly will blackmail Alice. I'm wondering what that means. This isn't India. Will she kill someone for their heart if Alice cooperates? Alice is already at the top of the list.

Dr. Obrecht - Nice?

Another question: What's with the all sweetness and light with Dr. Obrecht?

I can understand her fawning all over Franco. After all, he used to be BIG. But she was even civil to Silas and Monica. I hope she's still vicious.

The Embryo

Now I come to a subect that really engenders question marks in my mind. And it concerns the lone embryo of Lulu's and Dante's? Is this the ONLY embryo in General Hospital?

Here's why I ask. First, going way back, why would Britt have chosen the embryo of people with two viable embryos instead of choosing someone who had a few more than two? Not to mention, it was the embryo that belonged to two people she knew. Second, I hear that there is a possibility that Ava may lose her baby and become desperate to be impregnated quickly, so she will use Dante's and Lulu's embryo. I don't know how long she's been pregnant, but Sonny is going to wonder why 11, 12 months have passed and she still hasn't given birth. I've heard of late babies, but this could be ridiculous.

Dr. Drake

I have a few other things. Patrick Drake. One of our readers complained about his beard. Unless he's making a movie, I don't know why Jason Thompson sports a beard. A few other problems with Dr. Drake. The whole scenario of Rafe causing the accident and then having another accident didn't sit well with me. If there is a problem with the roads in Port Charles, they need to be fixed. It seems, as another reader commented, that every time someone gets in a car he or she is in an accident.

When it is discovered that Silas' car caused the accident, Patrick jumps to a conclusion and goes tearing after Silas. It was abnormal behavior. Supposing Silas' car had been stolen? Supposing someone else was driving? Why would he assume that another doctor ran them off the road and kept going? Stupid.

Later, Rafe was injured, and by then, it had been discovered that he was driving. I agree, Patrick should not have operated. Not because he's an unprofessional butcher, but because he was upset about Gabriel and in no condition to operate on that patient. Rafe comes out of it brain dead. Silas, another doctor, believes that Patrick let Rafe die? And Sam asks him the same thing? She knows he hated Jason's guts, and Jason lived!  Dumb.

Final Appeal

One more thing. Please, every single time someone has something important to say, why must they talk about it for two days and then be interrupted by a heart attack, someone walking in, a cell phone call? Can't someone just occasionally say, “I need to tell you that blah blah blah.” Please! It is so aggravating!
