X Factor Wagner going... please

I usually sit in on a Saturday night with my daughter watching the autumn reality TV shows on TV. However, this lighthearted pleasure in rapidly diminishing as I am forced to suffer through some horrific acts on both the X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing.

Sometimes I can understand a bit of charisma and a bit of comedy winning through, but who wants to see the same thing week after week?

On Strictly Come Dancing we have Ann Widdecombe barely doing anything beyond walking around, but somehow week after week she keeps coming back. Now for a few weeks I found it fairly amusing, but now it is just an embarrassment to have to watch her.

What is it about the British that they love an underdog? They love to fight back against the "authority figures" (judges) by disagreeing with their opinions. They like to back the underdog.

Is it just that it is more fun to watch someone struggle than to watch someone average. There is truth in the fact that black or white is far more entertaining than grey and so that is why you often find people in these reality shows going out before the due date of their ability.

It is the grey people who don't have the talent or if that is missing, the personality to make people vote for them.

On the X Factor I go and do something else whenever Wagner comes on. I am tone death and probably sound about the same as him. But here, thanks to his bigger than life personality he is into the last eight of the X Factor 2010.

I can admire the fact that he does have a certain kind of charm. Fine, give him a TV show, he has had enough coverage now... but why do people keep voting him in... who really wants to listen to it?

The only thing I can say though is that the people who we have lost before the dire wouldn't have made the show any better. But it might have made my Saturday nights more endurable.

But enough is enough. Let sanity, entertainment and talent win through now!
