How to Bundle Horsehair

    • 1). Wash and dry the horse's tail or mane, whichever you're cutting and bundling. Once the hair is dry, brush it out so that it's smooth and as tangle free as possible just as you'd do with your own hair.

    • 2). Gather the horsehair into your hand. You can attempt to separate out only the longest strands, or you can bundle all of the hair together. If you're taking a single bundle, but not all of the tail, it's recommended by Knot A Tail that you draw hairs from several parts of the tail so that you don't have a tail with a big chunk missing from it.

    • 3). Clip the horsehair close to the base of the tail. Once the horsehair is clipped, wrap the end with a rubber band just like you would for making a ponytail with human hair. You could, if the horse will allow it, bind the hair first and then cut it off to make it less likely that you'll lose the hair once it's been cut.
