According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, approximately four million people in the United States suffer from Sjogren's syndrome. Women are nine times more likely than men to be diagnosed with the condition. The diagnosis is usually made after age 40. - Sjogren's syndrome has no known cause. However, the syndrome has been linked to rheumatoid arthritis.
- Treatment goals aim to reduce the symptoms and promote comfort for relief of dry eyes and dry mouth. Artificial tears for dry eyes may be beneficial. Frequent sips of water and chewing gum may be helpful to relieve the symptoms of dry mouth.
