Tips in Performing Home Treatment For Tinnitus

When considering home treatment for tinnitus, there are many available methods to do so.
They may fall under lifestyle changes, or coping with the existing symptoms of ringing noises.
Cutting back on or stopping entirely the consumption of alcoholic drinks and caffeine containing beverages such as coffee or tea may help reduce tinnitus.
Nicotine is another possible trigger because it reduces the flow of blood to the ear.
So, people suffering from tinnitus should stop smoking or using other tobacco products.
Drinkers and smokers should try to reduce their intake if they are having problems with tinnitus.
The use of certain drugs, NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, may also contribute to tinnitus.
These include aspirin, naproxen, and ibuprofen.
Tinnitus sufferers should limit their use of these drugs to avoid worsening their symptoms.
Regular exercise, in addition to providing other health benefits, also enhances blood flow.
By improving the flow of blood to ear structures, it can relieve tinnitus to an extent.
Be careful, however, of exercises that involve keeping the neck hyperextended, for instance bicycle riding.
These should be done only in moderation and not over extended periods of time.
Apart from these lifestyle changes, some other measures can be taken to deal with the constant sound in the ears characteristic of tinnitus.
Wearing protective earmuffs or earplugs can help to block out noises that may worsen tinnitus.
Better yet, avoid these noises entirely, if possible.
The use of various relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga may help to relieve fatigue and stress that can make tinnitus worse.
Background noise such as white noise, soft music, and other soothing sounds helps make it easier to ignore tinnitus, especially in otherwise quiet places.
Ginkgo biloba, an herbal supplement, is also suggested as an effective way to relieve tinnitus, but it is not yet universally accepted.
Some studies show benefits, while others do not.
You could try it to see if it works for you.
While performing home treatment, one should also be careful to watch out for the following symptoms: Loss of coordination, weakness, or numbness on a side of your body or of the face can be due to nerve damage.
The development of symptoms like the loss of hearing, loss of balance, vertigo, vomiting, or nausea, should also be watched out for.
The localization of tinnitus to just one ear may also indicate a serious development.
When home treatments fail to relieve tinnitus even after a week (in case of ear injury) or two, it would be best to consult a doctor.
Another case when home treatment for tinnitus might not be enough would be when symptoms worsen severely, or when your tinnitus attacks occur more frequently.
