Nicole requests for Sami to leave and affirms that they will bring Johnny to her and pick him up. She implies that a child should really be with it’s mother, then wonders if she said something to upset Sami. Sami claims she’s fine and has never been better, referring to Nicole as just about the most unimportant person she can think of.
Nicole remarks how Sami is in a bad place right now, since her kids were taken away from her, she has no man in her life, and she supposedly goes home alone every night packing on the pounds.
Nicole gloats how she has a beautiful baby girl and how E.J. showers her with affection every day and every night. Sami states that she rather live alone for the rest of her life than to be trapped in “this dungeon.” She bets that E.J. will never walk Nicole down the aisle. Nicole reveals that they’ve already set a date. “Samantha,” says E.J. as he arrives home.
E.J. can’t help but smile at the sight of Sami. Nicole affirms that she wants no more surprise visits from Sami. Sami admits her surprise that E.J. is really going to marry Nicole, referring to her as a bitch. Nicole berates Sami for insulting her in front of her fiancé. The ladies briefly bicker back and forth before E.J. yells that it’s enough. He declares that he would like Samantha’s coming home to mark a new beginning without name calling and bickering. He asks for them to try and get along for Johnny’s sake and for his sake. Sami hears Sydney crying on the monitor. “That’s your baby?” asks Sami. E.J. confirms that the baby is indeed the latest addition to their household.
He proceeds to go feed Sydney upstairs.
After E.J. exits the room, Nicole gloats how he’s so devoted to Sydney. Sami warns Nicole to keep a firm hold on Sydney, reminding her that she’s living with the DiMeras. Thus, they have absolute control over everything you touch. Nicole reminds Sami that she’s going to be a DiMera. “And unlike you, I am loved here, deeply loved,” adds Nicole. Sami begins to warn Nicole about Stefano, but stops herself from divulging any more. E.J. then brings Sydney downstairs and Sami can’t help but smile at the sight of her. Sami looks at the beautiful Sydney and E.J. asks if she’d like to hold her. “No!” exclaims Nicole.
Back at the Hospital
Philip arrives and encounters Stephanie and asks if she’s there to see her mom. Steph declares that she and her dad are there to take Kayla home (too bad we can’t see Steve and Kayla). “I am so sorry,” he expresses. Steph questions what he’s sorry for. Philip sighs that he’s having trouble finding the right words. “How about pretending to be in love with Melanie?” questions Steph. Philip reiterates how sorry he is for lying and acting the way he did, thinking he could have it all and play hardball while running a business. He asks her for another chance and insists that he wants to do right by her. Steph assures him that she still loves him, but an apology isn’t enough after how he hurt her.
Back in Lucas’s room, Kate asks her son what he was doing at Daniel’s apartment and why Chloe was there. “If I don’t remember why I was at Daniel’s, how can I remember why Chloe was there?” retorts Lucas, who remembers taking that first drink at the pub. Kate surmises that he must’ve been upset about something, otherwise he wouldn’t have started drinking again. He recalls wanting to be numb and wanting to forget everything when he saw the booze, but it didn’t work. He guesses that he still loves Chloe. Kate reminds him that there are other women out there. “Not like Chloe. She is special,” he says. Kate agrees that she’s special and believes Chloe had a reason for what she did. Lucas recalls how sorry Chloe was and how she wanted them to get back together. Kate advises Lucas to think twice before walking away from love if he has another chance at it.
Lucas questions if Kate has been thinking about why she walked away from Daniel. Kate believes she wanted Daniel to keep his distance because at the time, she didn’t think she’d be around much longer. She admits she’s seeing things a little differently now that she’s in remission. Philip is standing outside the door and overhears, then smiles that it’s the best news he’s heard in months. “It’s a lot better than hearing that my brother got drunk and blew himself up,” banters Philip. Lucas says no more drinking for him and he intends on going back to AA where he belongs. He encourages his mom to go find Daniel and show him how grateful she is to be in remission. Kate reminds him that they’re grateful to both Daniel and Chloe.
After Kate leaves, Lucas recounts to Philip how he blacked out after the first drink and how he doesn’t remember anything after that. Philip mentions how Chloe comes in Lucas’s room and wants the engagement to be back on. He wonders what Lucas is going to say to Chloe. Lucas admits how scared he is of taking a risk and stepping off the edge without a net in reference to loving somebody. Philip notes how it sounds as though Lucas is ready to take Chloe back. Steph appears just outside the room and overhears Lucas talking about loving somebody. Philip wonders what good is money or power when you don’t have love.
Back at the Park
Chloe begs Daniel not to say anything to Lucas about the two of them, fearing that it will destroy any chance they have of being happy. Daniel is willing to take all the risks. Chloe reiterates that what they had is over, which he’ll have to accept. She admits that leaving him behind is one of the hardest things she’s ever had to do, but insists that it has to happen somehow. Daniel once again tries to talk her out of it, stating that not everybody finds that one person who makes him or her feel alive. He insists that they have a once in a lifetime chance and urges her not to let the guilt get in the way. Chloe insists that she’ll do her best to make it up to Lucas and be with him for the rest of her life. Daniel refers to this as suicide. She apologizes for hurting him, but once again declares that it’s over forever. They share one last kiss goodbye and Kate arrives just in time to witness the moment.
