How to Play Single Solitaire
- 1). Shuffle the deck. Deal one card face up and then six cards face down next to it in one row.
- 2). Skip the column that has the card face up and begin dealing with the second column. Deal the first card face up, and then deal the five remaining cards face down. For the next row, start with the third column and deal the card face up while dealing the four remaining cards face down.
- 3). Repeat the process so that you have seven columns of cards, the first column with only one card face up and the last column with six cards face down and one face up. In total, there should be 28 cards dealt.
- 1). The goal of the game is to create four piles of cards, starting with an Ace and moving all the way through the suit until you reach the King. When an Ace is face up, move it to a separate pile. If the 2 card of a certain suit is face up in a pile that the Ace has already built, place it on top of the Ace. (For example, if the Ace of hearts is face up to start the game, remove it to build the pile. If the 2 of hearts is also face up, take it and place it on top of the Ace. However, if the 2 of diamonds it up, it must remain in its position until the Ace of diamonds is drawn.)
- 2). Move cards from one column to another. To do this, they must be the card directly beneath the above card's value and an alternating color. (For example, if a King of diamonds is face up, a Queen of either clubs or spades can be placed underneath it.) By moving cards around, you can flip over the face down card directly beneath the newly-moved card to make it a playable card that can then be moved to another pile. If you clear out a column (meaning there are no more cards there) you can place a King of any suit there to start another column.
- 3). When no more moves can be made, take out the remaining cards in the deck. Keep them face down so as not to see what they are. Count out three cards and take the third card to begin playing. See if it can be used in the game by either being placed at the bottom of a column (for example, if it's a 2 of hearts and there is a 3 of spades face up, you can place the 2 beneath it) or in one of the four Ace piles. If you can use it, try to find a spot for the second card that you counted out. If so, try to find a spot for the first card. If you cannot find a place, count out another 3 cards from the remaining deck and begin the process again.
- 4). Continue playing until you have created four separate piles of suits starting with an Ace and ending with a King. This means you win. You lose the game when you can no longer make any more legal moves.
