Ohio Teaching Scholarships for High School Students
- Many of the Ohio colleges and universities with teaching degree programs also offer scholarships to incoming high school seniors attending those schools. Ohio University's Patton College of Education sponsors more than 40 scholarships for teaching education majors. Several of the scholarships are designated for high school seniors who will be incoming freshmen at the school, including the Harry and Helen Woodruff Scholarship and the Mary Ellin Weinberg Education Scholarship created especially for graduates of Grandview Heights High School.
- Several Ohio school districts also sponsor scholarships for high school students pursuing teaching degrees. The Medina City School District includes the Harold and Louise White Scholarship as one of its many scholarships. The scholarship goes to a graduating high school senior who will be attending an Ohio post-secondary school and majoring in education. The amount of the scholarship varies depending on funding received each year and the student's financial need. The Medina City Teachers Association also sponsors a scholarship through the Medina City School District. The scholarship awards $500 to a high school senior who will be pursuing education as a career.
- School-sponsored organizations fund teaching scholarships in Ohio, like the Heritage Elementary School PTO in Medina. The Wes Florian Scholarship goes to a former Heritage Elementary School student who is a graduating high school senior and will be majoring in education in college. The $1,000 scholarship goes to a student with a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) or higher and can be used at any college or university in the country.
- Other educational organizations, like The Northeast Region of the Ohio School Boards Association, also sponsor scholarships for high school seniors pursuing teaching. The $1,000 Northeast Region of the Ohio School Boards Educational Scholarship goes to a high school senior from northeast Ohio who will be majoring in teacher education at an Ohio college or university. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and submit two letters of recommendation and an essay describing their career goals as a teacher.
