How to Align a Satellite Dish
- 1). Pick the location where you want the dish to be placed. Select a spot that has the least amount of obstructions. Meaning a spot that has no houses, trees or telephone poles within eye level.
- 2). Using your screws and drill attach the mountain plate to either the house or railing where you wish your dish to be located.
- 3). Install the satellite dish to the mounting bracket according to the directions but keep the bolts somewhat loose that let you tilt and swivel the dish.
- 4). Run the coaxial cable that came with your kit from the satellite dish's LNBF to the receiver.
- 5). Connect the satellite receiver to the television set then turn them both on.
- 6). Insert the card that came with your receiver and refer to the instruction manual for how to initially setup the dish and receiver. It will tell you, based on your location, the proper elevation of the satellite dish as well as what direction you should be pointing. Write down the elevation number.
- 7). Place the compass in the center of the dish and slowly move the dish either left or right until it is pointed in the direction stated in the initial setup and then tighten the bolts.
- 8). Refer to the elevation number that you were given and tilt the dish to the mark on the swivel arm.
- 9). Place the signal finder in the center of the dish and check for signal strength. Adjust the elevation very slowly until you achieve the signal strength that you want then tighten the bolts.
