Painting and decorating is a great way to express oneself. However it can be also be a messy and tedious experience. You really only have one chance to get it right before you have to do it all over again.

When painting a room you need to first know what color you want. Picking out paints can be a science unto itself. This is where you need to go to the paint store and look at row after row of paint chips. It can be tedious but have patience the right color will come to you. Once you have the paint color picked out you will then need the primer and the proper tools. The tools of this trade are brushes, rollers, and roller pan for the paint. Don't forget to buy clear plastic to lie on the floor where you are painting as well as clothes to paint in.

Once you arrive back home it is time to set up the room to paint. First you have to move all the furniture out of the way or cover it. Once you have everything set up and moved you can begin to paint your room. First you want to apply a primer coating to the wall. Second, when the primer dries you want to begin applying the first coat of colored paint. You use your paint roller to apply paint to large areas of the wall. The brushes are used for smaller areas and closer to the ceiling and closer to the floor.

If you have molding you may want to apply masking tape over the molding that way you don't paint the molding and you can be able to paint the molding a different color. Also if you have socket and light switch covers on your wall you will want to unscrew and remove the wall covers. Sometimes people paint the socket and light switch covers a different color then the wall while some simply paint over them. When the room is done and the walls are dried this can open up an opportunity for when you move the furniture back in to redecorate.

Some decorating tips can be as simple as the ABCs. First, don't place large objects in obstruction of windows. This will block any incoming sunlight. Next try to position your furniture which requires electricity near outlets. This way you can plug in your electrical items with ease. Also don't cover outlets with large piece of furniture such as couches and book cases. This adds to the functionality of the room.
