Water Parks

• Wisconsin Dells self-proclaimed title, "The Waterpark Capital of the World," derives from the high concentration of water parks within the city limits. Wisconsin Dells water parks are in the city's eastern region and Lake Delton area. Many of these water parks are adjacent to theme resorts -- Polynesian Hotel (dellspolynesian.com), Kalahari (kalahariresorts.com) and Atlantis (theatlantishotel.com). Some of Wisconsin Dells water parks are indoor facilities, which allows for year-round water park activities. These water parks have children-friendly attractions, such as water playgrounds and treehouse structures.
  
  

Youth Sports

• The city of Wisconsin Dells hosts youth sports leagues for children younger than 18 years old. During the winter, children may participate in youth hockey tournaments, hosted by Dells/Delton Area Hockey Association (wisconsindellshockey.com). This hockey association provides hockey tournaments for young children and high school students. Youth hockey games in Wisconsin Dells occur at the Poppy Waterman Ice Arena. The Just A Game Fieldhouse (justagamefieldhouse.com) in downtown Wisconsin Dells facilitates basketball and volleyball games and tournaments; boys and girls leagues are available. Basketball and volleyball camps happen in the summer.
  
  

Water Recreation

• Wisconsin Dells name derives from the Dells of the Wisconsin River, a five-mile gorge which has sandstone and rock formations. The gorge and river pass through downtown Wisconsin Dells. Throughout the year, children have access to boating and fishing activities in the Dells. Non-river fishing activities are available in Lake Delton and Mirror Lake State Park -- both located in South Wisconsin Dells. The species of fish found near Wisconsin Dells include bass, walleye, northern pike and panfish. Wisconsin requires all fishermen older than 16 to have Wisconsin fishing licenses to fish in Wisconsin Dells.
  
  

Tourist Attractions

• Downtown Wisconsin Dells provides children-oriented tourist attractions right off the district's main thoroughfare, Broadway Avenue. Some of the Dells' tourist attractions include the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum (ripleyattractions.com), an institute with bizarre exhibits, and the Wizard Quest 4-D movie theater -- this theater involves 3-D movie screens and vibrating chairs. Children interested in photography may visit the H.H. Bennett Studio (hhbennettstudio.wisconsinhistory.org), one of the oldest continually operating photography studios in the United States; the studio opened in 1875. For miniature golf activities, Wisconsin Dells offer Pirates Cove (piratescovewisdells.com), which has five 18-hole courses.
