How to Drive Boat Dock Piles in the Lake
- 1). Place stakes in the water to mark the location of the dock piles. Drive the stakes into the ground under the water with a rubber mallet.
- 2). Measure the width of your pilings with the tape measure. Place a PVC pipe that is 2 to 4 inches wider than your pilings over the location of the first stake.
- 3). Place a wood block over the top of the PVC pipe. Strike the wood block with the sledgehammer. Drive the PVC pipe into the ground at least 3 feet.
- 4). Remove water and sand from the bottom of the PVC pipe with a vacuum. Mix concrete and pour it into the pipe. Fill the pipe with 12 to 14 inches of concrete.
- 5). Lower the wood piling into the pipe and press it into the concrete. Fill the remainder of the PVC pipe with concrete.
- 6). Verify that the pile is perfectly vertical and sits level in the water. Allow the concrete to set for at least 3 to 4 days.
- 7). Repeat this process for the remaining pilings for your dock.
