How To Find Out Who Owns A Website

The internet can be a rather faceless environment.
You often don't know who you are dealing with.
All you have is a website with some words and maybe some pictures.
How do you know if those details are accurate and if the owner is reputable? For a $7 report, it probably doesn't matter.
For a $497 training course, it does.
A SHORT STORY I recall examining a website a while back.
It looked professional.
It had a street address, which is always a good sign.
It had a formally presented photo gallery of the group of well-dressed professionals who were key officers in the business.
Nice photos of older men in suits.
They looked like the sort of people you could trust.
It turned out that this was an elaborate scam.
There was no such building at the Melbourne street address that was given.
Who the men in the photos were - who knows? MY POINT BEING...
...
that you cannot always believe what is written on a website.
So if you did want to do more thorough research about who owns a website, how would you do it? Whois.
net - This allows you to check the domain ownership records.
Further details perhaps including the owner's contact details may be available from a link near the bottom of this page.
AboutUs.
org - Type the domain name or the owner's name into the search field at the top and see what info comes up.
Archive.
org - You can usually find snapshots of the site in days gone by archived here.
Contact details might be available on some pages.
Alexa.
com - As well as traffic stats, Alexa also shows other sites owned by the same entity.
There may be contact details on some of his/her other sites.
DomainTools.
com - Here you see the Whois information and a lot more.
Plus, of course, you can a normal Google search.
Just type in the business name or any other fact about the business and see what you learn.
These methods are not 100% reliable because scammers know how to dress up a scam in a business suit, but this type of research will put you in a more informed position than if you didn't do it.
