    The Choice of DIY

    • When it comes down to purchasing headlights for your car, like most items, what you are willing to pay for will determine the outcome. Similar to taking your first steps in buying a car, the more money you spend, the better quality and durability. Well known online forums based around Honda, have owners who boast about their Blackhouse Headlights. Done right, the details are simple yet need to be paid attention to in order to sustain any possible damage. The most practical DIY way to have these headlights, is to use a spray based from Krylon Fusion in your desired color, in this case, black. The most simple of tools and equipment can be found within your household to make this happen. A glue gun, oven and screw driver will start you on your journey.

    Taking Action

    • The removal process can be intricate for individuals that are not car buffs, but patience is key. In order to locate them, carefully lift up the hood with one arm while placing the hood support rod in it's proper place to prevent serious injury. With a screwdriver, remove the bolts holding them together. Safely with both hands, slip out the lights and place them aside. Oven temperatures can be set at either 275 or 300 degrees. Remove all bulbs and wires from the unit before placing into the hot oven, or it will melt or explode. The entire headlight itself will not deteriorate though.

When ready, place one headlight at a time on a baking pan or sheet, and in this 10 minute process the cohesiveness of the glue will become soft enough to pry apart. Using standard kitchen mitts or gloves, carefully remove the sheet with the headlights. Find the clips holding together the headlights and remove those. Many sites recommend sanding the housing area for the spray to stick better, however it is what you prefer. Placing the housing on either newspaper spread out of a towel, use a primer to paint the area inside it and repeat this process a few times while having 10 to15 minute intervals of drying in between. Follow the same steps as you apply the paint color of your choice but allow the drying process to extend into at least an hour before popping back on the front of the lights and the painted pieces as well. Take your time in placing back the housing parts to avoid any faults.

After this process, put it back into the oven for no more than 5 to10 minutes to allow the glue to form once again then, press together the entire headlight unit. When the oven process is complete, place the bulbs and wires back then pop back in the headlights by bolting them back into your car. The best part is waiting for the sun to go down, starting up your engine and seeing your personalized DIY Blackhouse Headlights come alive in the night.
