Accommodation
Easter Weekend is generally a considerably busy time of the year and accommodation near any popular holiday locations is usually booked-out, to the dismay of the late-comers. To avoid being stuck in the last minute rat-race that many unfortunate people find themselves in, book very early €" months in advance if you can.
This will ensure that you not only have options, but also the option of choosing the more premium accommodation and locations.

Packing Wisely

Packing is something most often left to the command of the lady of the house, while the men shake their heads as excessive loads of clothing, food and other things are loaded into the vehicle. Packing too much can increase your fuel consumption significantly and also be dangerous in the vehicle as it can obstruct vision or become projectiles in the case of an accident occurring. Calculate how many days you will be away for and take only what you need. In terms of food and other commodities, take only what will be overpriced of completely unavailable on the other end.

Travel Route

Before you decide to leave on your journey, have a look at your map and study the route that you will be taking to your destination. You will want the shortest route possible and also the safest of course. Have a look at weather conditions on the day of departure and see if there is any need for change of course too. This may be in the case that you may be travelling through farm-lands and low-hanging river bridges while a flood may be occurring. On the way back you may want to take a slightly scenic route or alternate path as chances are everyone else will be utilising the same path home and you might become stuck in dense traffic conditions.

Your Vehicle

If possible, try and get a full vehicle service before your trip. The obvious things which should be checked are the tread levels on your tyres along with tyre pressure, that all lights are working and oil and water are at their optimum levels etc.

Take some spare water along in case your coolant decides to spring a leak and that goes for oil too. Make sure you have a fully-pumped spare tyre and all the tools in order to change a flat tyre should you be unfortunate enough.

Something that is often overlooked is your vehicle's licensing disc. Make sure your vehicle's license is updated as Easter Weekend is renowned for road-blocks, where many an unlucky driver has been left with a hefty fine.

Contact Numbers

Make sure you have contact numbers for family, the accommodation you will be staying at, police stations and other emergency services along the route of your travels and whichever else you feel you may need. Often people find themselves at a loss because they didn't have a contact number in a situation of need.
