1. Lacing Up a Pair of Skates


Correct lacing of ice skates is very important and must be done a certain way.  Rental skates are okay to use if you just want to try out ice skating, but if you are serious about learning to figure skate, it is essential that you buy good boots and blades.


2. Falling and Getting Up


If you are going to go ice skating, you must understand that if you are going to skate, you are going to fall. That's a fact, and it is essential to know how to fall properly on the ice and how to get up quickly.

Stopping on the ice is done by scraping the flat part of the blade across the ice. Pressure is put on the scraping foot, and the friction created on the ice causes a stop.

The first thing most beginning ice skaters want to do is move forward on the ice.   It also might be fun to attempt some backward skating!

Gliding is what makes ice skating fun!  First skaters glide and dip on two feet; and then there is gliding on one foot! 

What to Bring to the Ice Rink:

Wearing a helmet is recommended especially for young ice skaters,, and warm clothing and gloves are necessary for ice skating.Also make sure your skates fit properly.Remember ice skating is fun!
