Things to Do on Molokai, Hawaii
- Molokai Fish and Dive is a local landmark and a great place to start if you want to be out on the ocean. Pick from many experiences, including whale watching tours, kayaking, snorkeling and scuba diving or rent a surfboard.
Molokai is also a good place to fish. Molokai Fishing can take you out for deep sea fishing or a near-shore trip so you can try to land that marlin. You can also snorkel, scuba or watch whales while on this trip. Check with Alyce C Sport Fishing, which specializes in deep-sea charters.
Molokai Sailing Adventures is home to the only charter sailing yacht on Molokai. Several types of sailing trips are available, including day trips to Lanai, dinner cruises and sunsets or full trips around Molokai on the 53-foot Hoku Kai, or Sea Star. - Molokai is surrounded by beaches, some suitable for swimming and snorkeling and others where you're better off sticking to the sand. One thing to remember is to take water with you to drink, since most beaches don't have amenities such as drinking fountains.
For swimming, try Kapukahehu Beach, also called Dixie Maru Beach. This cresent beach is in a small cove and is a favorite spot for locals and visitors. Watch for large winter surf; otherwise swimming is usually safe here. Kephui Beach is a great spot to swim in the summer. It's only dangerous when the winter surf is up. This is a favorite surfing beach.
One Ali'i Beach Park is great for small children; wading is safe year-round and the water is too shallow for swimming. This beach also has great sand and is nice and flat. It's also one of the few beaches that has restrooms.
If you just want to hang out on the sand, try Hawaii's longest white sand beach, called Papohaku Beach. The water is full of dangerous rip current and shore breaks. This beach is usually empty and is perfect for a quiet and relaxing time. - If you get tired of sun, sand and sea, visit Purdy's Natural Macadamia Nut Farm and see what a working nut farm is like. Sample macadamia nuts raw or roasted, and learn about Hawaiian culture as well as macadamia nuts.
Molokai Fish and Dive is one of the places that leads tours of Kalaupapa Historic Park, once the site of a ministry for sufferers of Hansen's Disease. Go to Molokai Mule Ride to arrange for a mule ride down the world's highest sea cliffs to the national park, one of Hawaii's most beautiful sites.
