Why First Class Tickets Are Cheaper Than You Think
How often do you fly? Do you fly more than two times per year? I fly roughly 16 times each year and it is not as bad as it once was and the reason is because first class tickets are starting to look cheaper than coach.
Most people when they fly will fly coach and the reason is because they think it is cheaper than first class, but is it? What you need to understand is that first class is cheaper than coach under certain circumstances.
For instance if you were to spend $300 on a round trip flight, and you spend $60 total on checking 1 bag both ways.
Your total for that coach seat is $360.
Now lets look into a first class seat.
If you fly on certain airlines you can upgrade you flight at the last minute, this means you will pay a discounted rated for an upgrade.
Lets say you buy a discounted coach seat for only $240 because you got a seat in the middle and it was at the rear of the plane.
Now instead of paying for luggage you wait until you get to the airport(which will cost more if you don't get a first class seat).
Now you pay $100 for a round trip upgrade and since you are first class you don't have to pay for up to 3 checked bags.
Do you see why first class is often times cheaper than coach? Now that you know how the math works let me tell you the best way to make this happen.
What you need to do is pick a coach seat that you are OK with sitting in and wait until 2 weeks until the departure flight.
The reason you do this is so that you can get an upgrade from a person that might have just canceled.
What you want to look for is somebody that is closer to the front of the plane that canceled so that you can sit in their seat.
The reason you do this is because flight attendants will more than likely upgrade a person sitting very close to first class over somebody sitting at the rear of the plane.
This is important to know because most people think that it all comes down to first come first serve.
Just know that in order to get a first class ticket for cheap you need to be nice to the flight attendants and you should never buy a first class ticket right from the beginning.
