    United Kingdom

    • Traveling in the United Kingdom is the perfect choice for a solo female traveler. You speak the same language and it's a safe place to visit. England, Scotland and Wales are well connected by public transport, so if you want to travel across the UK. you can do so easily by bus or train. Buses and trains are often full of people, especially if you travel during the day, so you will always feel you have company and are in a safe environment. Never use unlicensed mini-cabs; hire a licensed black taxi instead. The UK is full of wonderful places to visit, from the vibrant and multicultural cities like London to the charming countryside. You could book your accommodation when you arrive, or if you want to leave your travel itinerary with friends back home so they know where you are, book it in advance.

    Chicago

    • If you don't want to leave the continent, travel to another city in the United States such as Chicago. You'll feel at home because you are in the same country, but exploring a new city can be fun and exciting. Being there by yourself means that you can go where you feel like and you can take paths that arouse your curiosity. Chicago has a lot going for it to suit all interests, from the waterfront and arts scene, to the impressive architecture and the jazz venues. If you feel like you'd like some company, take advantage of the free greeters program run by the Chicago Tourist Office. You'll be matched with a knowledgeable volunteer from the city who will show you around for a couple of hours. Serious crime in Chicago has been falling in recent years. Many places are safe by day but some places should be avoided at night, including the lakefront, parks and neighborhoods west of the Loop. On the other hand, the Loop, Near North, Gold Coast, the Old Town, Lincoln Park, Lake View and Bucktown are all relatively safe and busy both night and day.

    Amsterdam

    • The Dutch city of Amsterdam is perfect for female travelers by themselves and according to Lonely Planet, it is possibly even the safest major city in Europe. It's compact, meaning that everywhere is reachable by foot or by the locals' preferred method of getting around -- cycling. Many Dutch people speak English and they are used to English speaking visitors, so you will be safe in the knowledge that you can talk to people. It's a vibrant, interesting city to visit with a thriving café culture and lots of history. Harassment of women travelers in the street is rare and even the city's infamous Red Light District is relatively safe.

    Canada by Train

    • Crossing Canada via train is a great trip for solo female travelers to make. Given the restricted environment, you don't have to worry about finding yourself in an unsafe neighborhood or getting lost. Trains in Canada can also be sociable environments if you want them to be, and you may end up making friends in the restaurant and bar carriage. Choose your accommodation according to your budget and how much privacy you want. There are first class carriages where you'll have the room to yourself, or you could choose the more sociable coach carriages where you'll share your living quarters with others. As always when traveling, keep an eye on your belongings and keep valuable items, such as your handbag, with you at all times.
