Ohio is the 34th largest state in the U.S. and offers plenty of activities for the entire family, from toddlers to teenagers. Five professional sports teams representing basketball, football, baseball, soccer and hockey call Ohio home. Theme parks, museums and animal collections also make it ideal for days out with the kids. - Perry's Cave is a limestone cave 52 feet beneath South Bass Island in Lake Erie. It was discovered in 1813, and its stalagmites and stalactites make it a popular tourist attraction. The cave is 208 feet long, and the temperature is a steady 50 degrees. The cave also boasts an underground lake. A combo ticket also offers admission to the miniature golf course and butterfly house. Expert guides lead tours including private ones after hours, conducted in total darkness with hand held lanterns.
- Cedar Point has won several awards and is the second oldest amusement park in North America, having opened in 1870. It is located on the scenic shores of Lake Erie. Each family member will find suitable rides, and the park is well known for its 17 roller coasters. Apart from the thrill rides, there are children's rides, family rides and water rides. Kids have their own separate area to explore.
- The African Safari Wildlife park has a collection of animals from the African continent and elsewhere, including some unexpected highland cattle from Scotland. Other animals include giraffes, zebras, camels, alpacas, gibbons, Galapagos tortoises and llamas. Children can enjoy pony and camel rides, as well as animal shows and pig races. The park is involved in conservation programs.
- The Children's Museum of Cleveland provides fun and education aimed at children up to eight years old. The museum's mission is for children to 'learn through play'. Children are encouraged to participate in activities, such as learning how to be a magician, playing an instrument and singing, drawing and painting and participating in drama workshops. The Splish Splash area promotes water play, and the museum offers face-painting sessions.
