How to Report Illegal Immigrants to USCIS
- 1). Make a list of information that USCIS or ICE may find useful. Detailed descriptions of the illegal immigrant are helpful, as well as location, name and employment. Many illegal immigration raids are tied to employers who abuse immigration labor laws in an attempt to save money. Isolated reports may not spark a full-scaled investigation, but could contribute to existing investigations and enforcement.
- 2). Contact your local USCIS field office first. USCIS has immigration field offices located throughout the United States in most major cities. The primary purpose of USCIS field offices is to help foreign-nationals who are legally in the United States with matters such as employments visas, green cards and citizenship. However, if the USCIS field office does not have a specific designee in charge of handling reports of illegal immigration, they should refer you to the appropriate official.
- 3). Place a telephone call to your local ICE field office. ICE has approximately 25 field offices in different regions of the United States, which means they are less likely to serve your specific locale. However, ICE specializes in the enforcement of illegal immigration activities. ICE does not accept anonymous email reports of illegal immigrants, thus it is important to make your report over the phone.
- 4). Prepare a letter of your report to be sent your local USCIS and ICE agencies. In some cases, especially if you have a significant amount of information, the agent you speak with over the phone may request a written letter and provide you with a mailing address. However, even if not prompted, it is a good idea to submit a letter, as a well-written detailed report may add legitimacy to your claim.
