    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button. Click "All Programs." In the list of shortcuts and program groups, click "Internet Explorer" to open your web browser.

    • 2). Type the domain name with the SSL protocol in the top text box, which is also called the navigation bar. To create an SSL connection, you use "HTTPS" instead of "HTTP" in the text box. For instance, if you want to connect to Microsoft's website using SSL, type "HTTPS://microsoft.com."

    • 3). Press "Enter." An SSL connection is made between your computer and the web host server. A lock icon is displayed next to the web address at the top. As long as this lock is shown, you know you have an SSL connection.
