How to Create Glass Blocks in Photoshop
- 1). Open the picture in Photoshop. Select the "Window" menu from the row of menus at the top of the screen. Then choose "Layers." This will open the layers palette. At this point there will only be one layer in the layers palette, and this will correspond to the image that you have opened.
- 2). Right click on the layer in the layers palette and select "Duplicate Layer" from the menu. This will create a copy of the layer. A dialog box will open that gives you the option to customize some settings for the duplicate layer. These options can be safely ignored in this instance as they do not have any impact on this effect. Click "OK," and your duplicate layer will be added to the layers palette.
- 3). Select the "Filter" menu from the list of menus at the top of the screen. Then select "Distort." A sub menu will open displaying numerous different options for distorting your image. Choose "Glass." A dialog box will open offering you different options for customizing this effect.
- 4). Click the "Texture" drop down menu and choose "Blocks." If you select "OK" at this point, Photoshop will automatically apply a clear glass block filter to your image. Before saving the image, experiment with the other customization options to achieve your preferred effect. The "Distortion" option allows you to change the quality of the glass effect. Setting the distortion to 1 will give a clear glass effect. Increasing that number will increase the thickness of the glass, creating a warped look.
The "Smoothness" feature adds a grainy look to the glass. Setting the smoothness to 1 will give the glass a finer, rougher finish. Increasing the smoothness correspondingly reduces that effect.
The scaling option simply allows you to change the number of glass blocks on your picture. The lower the scaling, the smaller the glass blocks will be.
