Chelsea enters a sleeping Victor’s hospital room in the ICU and notes how there was some tension between him and Bo. “Chelsea. What do you think you’re doing?” scolds Daniel. He takes Chelsea out of the room and accuses her of doing exactly what he told her not to do. Chelsea wants to find out of there’s something going on between her dad and grandfather, but Daniel tells her it’s none of her business.

Daniel predicts that pushing Victor for answers will only cause his heart rate and blood pressure to spike, putting him at risk for another stroke. She insists that she’s just trying to help and would never intentionally hurt Victor or Bo. Daniel states another reason why he doesn’t want her getting involved in Victor’s mess, bringing up how Morgan’s dad has gone missing. “So you’re forbidding me from seeing my grandfather,” assumes Chelsea. “Yeah, I am,” confirms Daniel. She doesn’t like him ordering her around, while he doesn’t like her arguing with him. Daniel receives a page from the OR and orders her to stay away from Victor.

At the police station, Bo asks Hope if she’s sure she doesn’t mind pulling an extra shift tonight. Hope is fine with it as long as he can get Caroline to come back over and watch Ciara. Bo assumes that she’s still mad at him. Hope clarifies that she’s frustrated, upset, and disappointed. They are interrupted by a call revealing that Philip was shot at the DiMera mansion.

They make a beeline out of there.

Philip is on a gurney bleeding in the aftermath of the shooting at the DiMera mansion. “How could you do this?” screams Morgan at Eddie. Ava arrives on the scene and asks what’s going on. Roman informs her that Eddie just shot Philip. Eddie explains that Morgan reached into her purse and he thought she had a gun. Kate arrives and falls apart upon seeing Philip. Roman rushes to her side and tries to comfort her. Morgan cries how it’s all her fault, since he was trying to protect her. “Why were you trying to protect her? From what?” sobs Kate. Eddie reiterates that he thought Morgan was going for her gun. Ava orders Eddie to stop talking. Bo and Hope arrive on the scene, where Bo tells his brother to hang in there. Hope takes Morgan out of the mansion. Roman tells Eddie to have a seat and suspects John of setting the whole thing up.

E.J. explains to Roman how hysterical Morgan was when she arrived earlier. Roman wouldn’t put it past the “new John Black” to have set the whole thing up. Roman asks E.J. if it really looked like Morgan was going for a gun. “Absolutely, yes,” replies E.J. Roman asks Ava why Eddie’s there. Ava claims he’s there to discuss her case to see if he could help her out. E.J. affirms to Roman that Ava had nothing to do with the shooting and wasn’t even there. John recounts how Morgan burst into his house accusing him of killing Paul, then she threatened John and reached into her purse. Roman reveals that Morgan wasn’t armed. E.J. insists that Morgan was acting out of her mind. “Of course she was. She thinks her dad is dead and that John killed him, or had him killed,” states Roman. John inquires if there’s any proof that Paul’s dead. Roman says no, but it doesn’t mean he isn’t. He asks John if he had anything to do with Paul’s disappearance. E.J. warns him not to answer that. Roman notes how John and E.J. have gotten tight, recalling how the DiMeras always look out after their own. John questions E.J. on what kind of case he would have if he was to press charges against Morgan for breaking and entering, verbal abuse, and harassment. E.J. surmises he would have quite a compelling case. John suggests that Roman should decide that tonight’s “just one big unfortunate accident.” Roman summons Eddie to come with him to get a statement. John thanks Eddie.

John and Ava proceed to have a drink after the ordeal. E.J. insists that he needs to know everything from John if he’s going to fight for him. John reiterates that he didn’t import drugs into the country, he didn’t torch his warehouse full of goods, and he didn’t kill Paul Hollingsworth. Ava wishes they could get that “poor girl” to believe them too. E.J. notes how Ava sounds as though she feels sorry for Morgan. Ava confirms this, as she knows what she’s going through. E.J. advises Ava to back off John’s situation, since she has enough of her own legal affairs to deal with. John implores E.J. to concentrate on Ava. E.J. receives a phone call from the D.A.’s office and informs them that a fax is being sent over regarding a new development in Ava’s case.

E.J. goes over Ava’s case with her, which reveals that the request for extradition by the Irish government has been denied and the case will be tried in Salem. John is ready to celebrate with champagne and caviar. Ava credits E.J, but E.J. tells John to read the last paragraph, which states that Judge Karen Fitzpatrick will be the presiding judge.

John later pops open a bottle and raves how he has almost a thousand bucks of unfertilized fish eggs and fermented wine. He invites E.J. to join them, but he has work to do. John tells him not to be presumptuous on Judge Fitzpatrick. E.J. reminds John that this isn’t the first time he’s done this and he knows how to play the game. Ava wonders what the two of them know that she doesn’t. John implies that they know about the judge’s reputation for fairness. After E.J. leaves, John toasts to a fast and fair decision. Ava insists that she knows what’s going on in regards to the judge. She is eager to thank him and kisses him.

John has his robe on as Ava asks if he and Judge Fitzpatrick go way back. “Oh, so I’ve been told,” responds John. He implies how the judge knows how to properly thank someone for a generous campaign contribution. Ava laughs, remarking how he really knows how to help his friends. John admits that he considers the two of them more than friends. Ava seductively implies how she wishes she could show him how much she appreciates him, then kisses him passionately.
