  When someone mentions a vacation in Texas, a woodsy log cabin is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. But the Lone Star State has more to offer its visitors than ranches, plains and dry heat. For those who want a quiet outdoor getaway, the state's many cabin rentals offer an unique way to experience the different regions of Texas.
  
  

Foxfire Log Cabins

• According to the state's tourism department, Texas' Hill Country region is home to rolling hills, lush landscapes and more than 20 state parks. Located at the center of Hill Country, the seven cabins at Foxfire sit along the banks of the Sabinal River.
  
  Each of the cabins has two bedrooms and comes fully equipped. The open beam ceilings and wooden floors give the interiors a rustic feel, and outside the cabins have porches and, in most cases, an additional deck or patio. The cabins are situated around the main pavilion, free laundry facility and office and are available to guests during all four seasons.
  
  The cabins are about one mile from Lost Maples State Natural Area. Within Lost Maples' 2,175 acres of Hill Country, visitors can see limestone canyons, grasslands and other natural sights.

Crow Canyon Cabin

• Three miles south of town of Acton and only a short drive from downtown Granbury, this cabin offers a vacation from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life. Family-owned Crow Canyon Cabin is surrounded by 40 acres of secluded forest, but it still offers plenty of modern conveniences--a large stone shower, TV access and central heat and air.
  
  Although there is a private fishing pond on premises, guests might also want to explore the nearby Granbury Lake. The body of water is located in the heart of the Northern Texas prairies and lakes region. Created in 1969 when the Brazos River was dammed, the lake is suitable for outdoor activities ranging from fishing to water skiing. For those who are less adventurous, the town of Granbury is also home to numerous shops and restaurants.

Log Country Cove

• For a less rustic experience, try these luxury log cabins in central Texas. Located on Lake LBJ and a 10-minute drive from four of the region's Highland lakes, the 30 cabins at Log Country Cove provide lots of options for water enthusiasts.
  
  These fully equipped cabins range in size from one-room honeymoon getaways to five-room family houses. Although only select cabins have private outdoor pools, each has easy access to the lake and nearby trails.
  
  Located on the Colorado River, Lake LBJ is one of the six Highland lakes. It encompasses 6,375 acres, stretching from Horseshoe Bay to Kingsland. The constant-level lake is ideal for boating, water skiing and fishing, according to the lake's visitor guide.
