5 Card poker requires a lot of patience.
The great thing about this form of poker is that you get to see some of your opponents' cards.
However, keep in mind that they can see your cards as well.
If you want to win the pot then more often than not you have to have the strongest hand.
However, there is a 5 card poker strategy which will make other players doubt their own hands - even if their hands were stronger than yours.
There are certain strategies you can use to increase your chances of winning.
One important thing to remember is that poker is not just a one-hand game.
Minimizing your losses is as important as winning a big hand.
By playing safe where you need to, you will be able to keep your stack looking healthier so that you can bet on the cards that count.
Furthermore, there are 4 betting rounds in each hand so even if you decide to play from your first cards that are dealt it does not mean that you have to stay in until the showdown These are things that you can do in order to better your chances of winning and also to decrease your chances of losing.
Poker is all about balance and about knowing when to play and when to back down.
In fact, the top poker professionals are those who know when to fold.
BE AWARE - By keeping in mind what 5 cards your opponents have and what they have folded will allow you to have a better grasp on whether you have a potentially winning hand or not.
This is possibly the best advicebecause you cannot play 5 card poker in a vacuum.
As part of your 5 card poker strategy If you can see certain cards that you need as a part of your opponents' hands then you should consider folding.
For example, if you are chasing a flush then you should look around the table.
If there are not many cards of the suit you are chasing then you have a stronger chance of getting those cards dealt to you.
Never Bet With Your Ego: Folding your hand if you see that your opponents have much stronger hands is never a bad idea.
You are not supposed to win every hand in poker.
Sometimes it is wiser to play it safe than to play aggressively.
Once in a while it is okay to bluff, but this should be the exception and not the rule.
Your opponents will start to read you too easily this way.
There is no shame in folding a hand.
Going all the way with an average hand will only kick you in the teeth at the showdown because the longer you stay in the hand, the more money you will be throwing away.
This will dent your confidence for the next hand or cause you to tilt.
If you find this happening you should either step away from the game or start playing a lot safer until you have gathered your thoughts again.
Chasing The Straight If you are chasing a straight then you need to be sure that you have a good enough chance of hitting it.
By looking around at the table you will be able to see if the cards you need are in sight, or are possibly still going to be drawn.
The more you play 5 card poker, the more you will see how the strategy.
The key is lots of patience and resolve.
