"Call of Duty" is Infinity Ward's original World War II-based first-person shooter, or FPS. The game allows players to relive many of the critical battles of World War II's European front. "Call of Duty" includes a full-featured online game mode, in which players are able to team up or square off over the Internet. A few playing tips can help you get ahead in this mode. - "Call of Duty" is not a game modeled on the "Army of One" philosophy. To stay alive in the game, players must remember that they are part of a squad and act accordingly on the field of battle. This means looking out for your teammates: if a health power-up is available, help a teammate in need of first aid to get the attention he needs. Equally, if your squad is in need of covering fire or battlefield help, don't rush ahead and hope they make it through: move as a team and provide your squad members with the support you'd want them to give you.
- The squad that survives in an online game of "Call of Duty" is the one that is able to function as a unit, and that means keeping the lines of communication open. When your squad is called on to make a decision, press "F1" or "F2" to add your yea or nay vote to the count. Keep the team communication open by pressing "V" to open up a team-wide voice-chat, but don't fill your teammates' ears with noise: if you have something to say to just one squad member, press "T" instead and choose their name to open a private chat with just them. This method can be useful in planning two-man assaults.
- Moving under cover is important in the single-player game, but in a multiplayer match where other players' success hinges on your judgment, it becomes vital. If your squad is negotiating an area with low-level cover, make sure to duck or go into a prone position to hide your head from enemy fire. If you show your face at the wrong time, you won't be the only one who comes under fire, and your squad won't thank you. Master silent battlefield techniques: instead of going in all guns blazing, use the game's training mode to practice the art of bouncing a hand grenade off the wall to misdirect your enemies and deal damage to enemies hiding in unreachable locations, without giving your team's position away before it's necessary.
