For librarians and library users, a library association can provide the needed information about finances, new technology, special grants and new innovations in library management. National library associations give needed advice and mutual support, but many librarians find the most help comes from their local library associations, which have information that relates to the library's specific locality. Indiana has a number of library associations for Indiana library staffs. - The Indiana State Library collects and preserves all types of data and information about the state of Indiana. In addition, the State Library provides libraries throughout the state with a wide variety of resources and information, including professional development resources and library development resources. The State Library also coordinates interlibrary loan programs between Indiana libraries, book club kits, storytime kits, stimulus information for libraries and updates about grants for libraries.

in.gov/library - The Indiana Library Federation fosters the professional growth of federation members and promotes the growth and development of libraries throughout Indiana. Membership in the Indiana Library Federation provides library professionals with networking opportunities and the opportunity to support the federation's work on behalf of libraries in the legislative arena. Members can also attend the group's conferences and receive continuing education credits through the conferences.

The site lists positions in federal libraries, academia, archive work, research, records management, school libraries and special libraries. The site also offers listings by state, and has a Midwestern states' libraries page, which includes listings for Indiana.
- The Indiana Special Libraries Association networks special libraries in Indiana to facilitate communication between library professionals who work in similar fields. Special libraries include business libraries, law libraries and health science libraries. These professionals share information relates to their library specialty, such as Internet use, usage of copywritten materials and obtaining grants.
