How to Get Licensed in Florida to Be a Health-Care Administrator
- 1). Check the license-application requirements on the Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators website to familiarize yourself with the information you'll have to provide and the testing requirements. Applicants must have at least one year of management experience at a skilled-nursing facility, hospital, hospice, assisted-living facility with at least 60 licensed beds or a geriatric residential-treatment program, according to Florida state law.
- 2). Take the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) exam. You can apply online at NAB's website. The site also provides a handbook and useful information to help you prepare for the exam. The national and Florida-laws exams are administered by computer through the Sylvan Prometric Multi-State Network of Testing Centers. NAB will provide you with a list of testing sites once you are registered to take the exams.
- 3). Follow up with the Medical Quality Assurance division of the Florida Board of Nursing Home Administrators once you have passed the NAB exams. Pay the license fee and have your license issued. The department phone number is 850-488-0595, or write:
