Guernsey Divorce Law
- Guernsey law requires a petition for divorce, affidavit in support of the petition, statement regarding arrangements for children, reconciliation statement and a certified copy of the marriage certificate in order to begin the divorce proceedings.
- Guernsey laws requires the respondent of the petition to provide additional forms in the instance that adultery is alleged. This includes a petition and possibly a cross-petition, which are much like the pleadings in a civil case.
- The most common reason that divorce goes to trial is for the division of assets. Guernsey law includes a "pre-action protocol" to help the two parties of the divorce to prepare for proceedings by providing guidelines for the division of assets.
