Traveling to Bangkok on a shoe string budget is certainly achievable.
There are loads of great value hotel accommodations throughout the vibrant city.
Normally, budget hotels are situated on the outskirts of popular cities.
This is not true at all for Bangkok.
There are plenty of affordable budget hotels right in the heart of Bangkok.
Bangkok is made up of several districts and neighborhoods and most of the tourist attractions and best shopping hot spots are found in 3 popular districts named:
  1. Silom District
  2. Pratunam District
  3. Sukhumvit District
All three of those districts are very close to each other and are easy to travel to each other since the BTS Sky Train makes a stop near all of them.
Even though the BTS is not an extensive train system it will still get you to most of the attractions in Bangkok or at least near it.
But it will certainly take you to all of the most popular shopping centers in the city.
Silom District Silom is like the Wall Street of Bangkok where major international and Thai corporations are headquartered.
It's also where one of the most infamous red light district called Patpong is located.
There are the fewest budget hotels in Silom but one that shines is Lub d (not a misspelling) Hostel.
This property has many types of room configurations; from private bedrooms and bath to shared bunk bed dormitories and bathrooms.
Though it is in a quiet lane guests are not too far from a BTS train station and Patpong's nightlife action.
Pratunam District This district is most well known as a wholesalers clothing market.
But you don't have to own a clothing business to shop here.
Tourist hell bent on a wild shopping spree are much welcomed.
Head for Pratunam Clothing Market where you can shop for jeans, t-shirts and a swim wear for that side trip to Phuket island at very good prices.
It's also a well known spot to pick up brand name luxury items of dubious genuine quality.
Pratunam district has many budget hotels such as Best Bangkok Hotel and Four Seasons International House Hotel with room rates starting around 1000 baht per night.
The location is good but car traffic in the area is nightmarish and the nearest BTS station is a 20 minute walk away through small lanes and crowded streets.
Sukhumvit District Sukhumvit is considered to be the most expensive district in central Bangkok.
It's where well to do Thais live alongside with expats in condos and expensive apartments amongst the finest hotels, restaurants and lively clubs and bars, complete with easy access to 2 red light districts.
A stay in Sukhumvit puts you right in the heart of the city.
But all hopes not lost.
There are a handful of budget hotels in the area.
One of the most popular is called Sawasdee Langsuan Inn and Hotel.
A standard room there cost around 1000 baht.
Not bad considering other hotels in the area are high classed luxury properties with astronomical prices.
A vacation in Bangkok is a wise choice for budget travelers.
And there are many popular accommodations in the city to choose from that is perfect for almost everyone's budget.
