How to Beat Castlevania for Nintendo
- 1). Learn how to move Simon Belmont. As Simon Belmont you have all the moves to beat Dracula. Your character can jump, whip and move side-to-side and maneuver stairwells. Being an older system game, Simon can be a bit rugged and stiff in his moves, so learn them to avoid fireballs, bats and thrown skeleton bones.
- 2). Be quick with the weapons. Simon's main defense is his whip, but he also has boomerang-crosses, holy water and other items in his arsenal. Learn when to use each weapon correctly, (use holy water when you need to stop a line of approaching baddies, or a boomerang to get multiple hits on air enemies) and especially your weapons with the bosses. The Giant Bat is weak against the axe's arc. Medusa hates Holy Water as does Frankenstein's Monster, and use the Boomerang on the Mummies.
- 3). Be patient! Portions of Castlevania's fatalities are because of rushing into flying heads or racing up clock tower stairwells. Be patient and move with stealth and cunning. You'll rarely get close to the winding down level clock so don't fret. Running heedlessly up stairs and into rooms will definitely get you killed.
- 4). Watch out for Medusas! Many vampire-hunters have died from a Flying Medusa head hitting them and knocking them back off a ledge or onto a trap door. They fly in the worst-case locations and they fly in wave formation. Watch their patterns and you can strike them or avoid them. Also, be sure to know your monsters. Skeletons throw bones from afar, Red Skeletons regenerate, Fishmen jump from underneath you and Hunchbacks have great acrobatic skill.
- 5). Bulk up on hearts. Hearts are the ammunition for your weapons. Hit every wall, candle and enemy to gain more hearts, which will give you more axes, boomerangs and holy water for your attack and raid on Dracula's castle. You'll max out at 99, but that's okay--you want to have as many as you can for the final fight with the Count.
