Calorie Counts and Food Swaps for Grapes
Updated March 08, 2014.
Some diet experts recommend that people who are trying to lose weight avoid grapes. But fresh fruit is an important part of a healthy diet. So what's a dieter to do?
The calorie count for grapes is very low. One cup of grapes contains only 62 calories. But it is the sugar content of this fresh fruit that occasionally causes concern. There are nearly 15 grams of sugar in a cup of grapes. By comparison, a cup of raspberries contains only 5 grams of sugar.
If you are trying to reduce your sugar intake to lose weight, grapes may not be your best choice. But for many eaters, grapes can satisfy your sweet tooth and still provide less sugar than an alternate treat. If you choose to snack on a cup of grapes instead of jelly beans, for example, you'll save yourself a whopping 130 grams of sugar.
If you are trying to consume less sugar and you love grapes, consider mixing them with a lower sugar fruit like raspberries. Use this handy Low Carb Fruit List to mix your favorite flavors.
