How I Kept My Young Daughter Happy On Halloween
On this Halloween evening, after most trick-or-treaters had come and gone, and it was getting dark, my kids started their adventure. The kids decided they were going to go out in the dark to go trick-or-treating. So they got ready to go and my youngest daughter who was about eight said that she wanted to go also. The older kids immediately said no. They said that she was too young to come with them, as kids often do. She was very unhappy and so the older kids went off into the night to have some fun.
I thought maybe I could do something with my younger daughter that she would enjoy. She was very thin and had long hair. I put her on my shoulders and then wrapped her in a long raincoat. The raincoat extended down over me so that we looked like we were 9 feet tall.
So off we went out into the night. She was very thin and very light and I found that I could run with her just as easily as if she were not there. We went searching for the older kids and found them trick-or-treating. They looked and saw us and wondered what that thing was that was 9 feet tall coming towards them. We began to run after them. When we got closer they could see that this was a big black monster with hair flying in all directions running like the wind after them. We scared the pants off the kids that were trick-or-treating. They all ran in different directions and ran off into the woods to hide. After chasing all the kids off, my daughter and I returned home.
When the kids were finished trick-or-treating and came home they were all excited. They started telling us about this tall ghoulish thing that was chasing them and running like the wind after them. This scared them so they scattered and went in different directions. They decided then that they had had enough for this Halloween and came home. My daughter and I never said anything but we just had to smile at each other. I thought that my daughter had an enjoyable Halloween after all.
