Going Overseas on a Budget

Wanting to take a trip overseas? Don't have that much money to spend while away? Take the time first to save as much money as possible before you go overseas.
Keep an eye out on the exchange rates and start getting some foreign cash and travellers cheques ahead of time.
Be aware however, that some Banks will charge you for getting foreign currency out.
Go online and look at the cost of items where you are going.
Know how much it is going to cost you for food and drink ahead of time so you can budget for it before you get there.
Find out how much it will cost to get into places you want to see.
Allow for costs like programmes you may purchase, entry fees, and transport costs.
That way you will know how much exactly you have to spend on the fun stuff.
Make a list of people that will be getting a present on your return and even make suggestions on your notes, keychains, sarongs, teeshirts, fridge magnets, things like that are all good presents and can be gotten for good prices.
A lot of places have markets and market days.
Keep an eye out for these and check online for details and where they are.
Also ask the local people about the markets.
Write down the exchange rate so when overseas you will have a fair idea what the item costs in NZ money.
Give yourself a budget per day and stick to it.
That way you wont't run out before the end of your trip.
Make sure you have a good pair of walking shoes with you and an umbrella because you never know when you may get caught out in the rain.
Look online for bed and breakfast places to stay at.
Many of these places may not look the fanciest place to stay in but they are a place to sleep in at the end of a day.
Plus they provide breakfast included in your accommodation, so eat up and get your fuel for the day.
These types of places can be cheaper overall.
Be aware of how much luggage you are taking with you and don't be fooled into thinking you won't be buying a lot of items to bring home.
Luggage weight is important on the trip home and if you are over the limit, this will cost you a lot of money, so be aware of the weight before you leave and how much you have in weight you can use up.
Look online for budget trips that offer sightseeing tours.
There are plenty out there so do your homework first.
Sightseeing trips around the places you may like to visit will cost but you will get to see a lot more than just the local areas and therefore well worth it.
