Picking The Right Domain Registrar
The other day a friend of mine asked me about buying a domain name. He knew that I was an experienced domain investor and he was planning on buying a domain name for his business. He had looked online and noticed there were hundreds of domain registrars to choose from. He wanted to know which one I thought was the best to use.
Before I suggested a domain registrar to use, I asked him a few questions first. I wanted to find out if he was planning on buying just a domain name or did he want additional add on services like hosting, email, or parking. The reason I wanted to know is because some registrars will offer you discounted prices if you are including other services.
I also asked him how many domain names he planned on buying. Some registrars are better for managing large portfolios, while others are fine if you are just buying one domain. After that, I inquired whether he planned on purchasing a .com domain or another alternative extension. Most registrars offer about the same price for .com domains, but for other extensions, the prices can vary widely.
After I was done questioning him, he let me know that he was planning on just buying one domain name for his business. He wanted to get the .com version, but would consider other extensions if the one he wanted was taken. He said that he did not need any other add on services that were offered, just the domain. His web design company was going to handle the rest.
Once I received his answers, I told him I would get back to him in a couple of days with the best domain registrar for him. I wanted to go home and do some more research online. I had a few domain registration services in mind. But I just wanted to confirm that they were the right ones for him.
Later that week I called my friend and let him know that I had picked out a registrar for him to use. It was the best one I could find that I thought would suit him the best. He ended up choosing the one I recommended. After buying the domain there, he got back to me and let me know how please he was with the service. He told me that the website was easy to use and that the customer support he received was outstanding.
