What is News and What is Not? What About Rocky the Squirrel?
The impact of this cycle can at times far reaching.
Stories labeled as news or having relevance to present and future events are thrust on us not only from the administration's propaganda mills like the New York Times and The Washington Post but also by the free thinking conservative media, (I think I will get in trouble for saying that.
) Both sides are guilty of exaggerations and blatant misinformation.
However the left seems much more egregious in this cult of misrepresentation.
Acceptance or rejection of the various points of view are often based on demographics.
For example: in California there is a huge lobby of self interest groups whose economic and political power depend on the support of not only challenged liberal socialists but also illegal immigrants, first as economic slaves, such as the non-union grape pickers who harvest grapes in the Pelosi vineyards in St.
Helena, in the Napa Valley, and second as future voters for the Democrat's.
However it must be mentioned that it has been conservatively estimated at this point, that 6% of the votes cast in California elections are cast by illegal aliens anyway.
While this is a relatively transparent and apparently treated as a non-issue in California, it is not news.
Now two good examples of what are and what are not, in my opinion, really news.
1.
The issue of Elena Kagan, Obama's pick for the Supreme Court.
Two of the big issues are, one, whether she is "gender confused" because she can swing a baseball bat like a man and two, the idea that her appointment will put another liberal on the Court.
News flash from the past.
Justice Stevens who she is intended to replace is himself a liberal swing vote, therefore her appointment is a wash and not news.
It will however be news, if Obama increases the size of the Court and tries to railroad another socialist to a position on the Court.
2.
The passing of Rocky the Squirrel.
This issue is much more relevant as an analogy to our current political situation.
First let me explain.
Rocky is, (was), a squirrel who had a bad habit of running into the middle of a semi rural road near my house despite oncoming traffic.
Rocky unlike other squirrels caught in this predicament chose to wait until the last moment before running back to the side of the road.
I experienced this little drama on more than a few occasions having had to swerve or put on my brakes at the last moment in order to avoid running Rocky over.
After this happened a few times I had a suspicion that maybe, just maybe, Rocky was playing "chicky" with on coming cars.
To affirm my hypothesis I decided to park on the side of the road one day and see if Rocky appeared when a car was coming down the road in order to determineif he was intentionally playing a game of self destruction.
Sure enough, as I watched a car coming down the road, Rocky ran from the side of the road and stopped in the middle looking straight at the car coming towards him.
He scurried away a split second before the car reached him.
It then occurred to me that Rocky was perhaps a bit challenged at not really being aware of the ramifications of his actions.
And this past Saturday it happened.
Rocky met his end where the tires meet the road.
Poor, (dumb), Rocky violently went to his reward in whatever heaven is reserved for squirrels.
Now you are probably wondering why I considered writing about Rocky's silly behavior and his tragic end as a result of his unthinking actions.
It occurred to me that too many Americans, like Rocky, are playing a game of "chicky" when it comes to voting for the same politicians over and over.
Like Rocky they ignored the possible consequences because they had never been run over before, that is until Barack Obama was elected.
His election was the end result of playing a game of no consequences for too long.
And now it's happened.
Obama has run us over.
The only difference between us and Rocky's demise, is that we are, unlike Rocky who went pretty fast, forced to suffer the consequences of the actions of those who made Obama's ascension to power possible.
And unlike Rocky, we are consigned to a daily living hell, wondering if he is going to back up and run us over some more.
My guess is he definitely will.
Just my opinion.
