How to Report Threat Calls

    • 1). Write down as many details about the call as you can remember. Take note of the time and date of the call, a description of the caller's voice, what he said and whether there was any background noise. Estimate the caller's age, if possible. If you are away from home and receive the call on a cell phone, find a safe place to sit for a few moments while you write the information down.

    • 2). Call your local police department and let an officer know that you would like to file a report. Provide the officer with the details you have written down about the call. The officer may ask you to visit the police station to complete your report. If you'd like to file a lawsuit, contact a lawyer to help you review the situation and determine whether the caller's words were unlawful. Discuss whether you are entitled to any civil damages. Begin filing a lawsuit if your lawyer agrees that is an appropriate course of action.

    • 3). Call your phone company or cell service provider and inform an associate of the situation. Let her know everything you can about the call and that you have filed a police report. The phone company may set a trap on your phone line so they can obtain the caller's number and subsequently block him from calling you.

    • 4). Visit your local county court to inquire about a restraining order. If you feel you are in danger and know the identity of the harasser, complete the necessary forms to begin the process. A judge will review the information you've provided and decide whether to issue a temporary restraining order, which will protect you until the hearing date. Be aware that there will likely be a fee, which varies by state, for filing a restraining order.
