Tips for Taking Fun Photos
- Make it look like your subject is holding up a large object that is not humanly possible to pick up. For example, make it look like she is holding a large building in the palm of her hand, carrying mountains on her back or holding up her brother with her feet. Set up your camera and while looking through the view finder direct how you want your subject to be posed until you find the proper position.
- Get your subject off his feet and up in the air by taking photos of him jumping and flying through the air. Rather than have him sit stiffly in a chair, have him jumping off the chair kicking his feet out below him. You can also have him jump off of a box, car, diving board or other sturdy item to give him some height when shooting the portrait.
- Instead of looking straight on at the subject, change your perspective when shooting a portrait. Get down on the ground and shoot up at your subject or get at eye level with the kids playing on the ground. You can also step up on a ladder and shoot down at your subject and maybe have them screaming, pointing and looking up at you.
- Get your subjects to act funny and goof around with each other. Let them interact with one another by poking, joking and making silly faces at each other. Some of your subjects may not have to act funny, it may come naturally.
- Get your subjects to dress up in costumes and get them to act out their costumed role in front of the camera. Some examples include dressing in camouflage with guns and a forest background or with a water background and everyone is wearing life jackets. Another idea is to have your subjects dress up in football uniforms and pile up on each other.
