Complementary Procedures for a Facelift

Regardless of the number of hours a person spends in the gym or following a diet, there are some areas on the body and face that cannot be improved without the assistance of surgery. One such area is the skin that collects around the jowl and neckline. Luckily, face lifts can help in tightening a person's skin to look naturally youthful. They can also assist in reducing double chins, excess fat in the cheeks, and sunken cheek pads.

While some people have a face lift as a standalone procedure, many others choose to combine their surgery with other facial enhancements. One of the most popular nonsurgical options for people who are having a facial sculpting procedure is BOTOX® Cosmetic. My Naples and Fort Myers patients often choose this popular injectable to highlight their natural and more youthful looking appearance.

The Benefits of BOTOX®

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a natural protein that helps to temporarily reduce the appearance of certain facial wrinkles caused by muscle movement. While a face lift primarily tightens the skin on the lower portion of a person's face, as well as the neck, BOTOX is often used in the upper portions of the face, including around the eyes and on the forehead. I've found that my plastic surgery patients from Fort Myers and Naples often need rejuvenation in this upper portion of the face so that they can achieve a more complete makeover from their face lift procedure.

Neck Lift: A Natural Choice

In addition to nonsurgical procedures such as BOTOX and injectable fillers, other facial surgery procedures can be combined with a face lift. Most commonly, this procedure will be teamed up with a neck lift to improve both the appearance of the lower face and jawline as well as the area below the chin. A neck lift can remove excess skin and fat in this area, and also can smooth out the neck skin, which often experiences wrinkling or vertical banding over time. Other facial plastic surgery procedures such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery can be performed to improve the appearance of the mid or upper face.

Skin Resurfacing: Improves the Tone and Texture of the Skin

Commonly, a patient undergoing a facelift has textural issues of the skin including age or sun spot as well as wrinkles.  The facelift helps lift fallen tissues, but does not address the skin's texture.  So frequently, we combine medium to deep facial peels like TCA or Croton Oil to help improve the tone and texture of the skin by removing sun spots and improving wrinkles of the mouth, forehead, frown lines and crow's feet with the facelift.

Supplement Your Smooth Complexion

Face lifts also can be combined with surgical procedures for the breasts and body. Dimensional liposuction and tummy tucks are popular options for people who are planning on a face lift, and also want to remove areas of excess fat and/or re-sculpt the abdomen. My patients often like to incorporate several surgeries into a single procedure to reduce and consolidate total downtime.
