Organize Your Scrapbook Workspace: Decorative Embellishments Holder
If you sit down at your scrapbooking workspace and feel overwhelmed and uninspired, then it's time to get the mess cleaned up and get those creative juices flowing again. Let's get started with the perfect container to hold all your unused accents and embellishments - a Decorative Embellishments Holder!
Supplies: Plastic Jar with tight-fighting lid, Decorative Paper, Card Stock, Embellishments, Ribbon, Decorative Punches, Ruler, Scissors, Line Adhesive, and Tacky Strip
Build the Holder:
1) Collect your favorite patterned paper (like Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper) and matching card stock, embellishments and ribbon, and, of course, the jar & lid.
2) Measure the distance around the jar (circumference) and the height; add " to the circumference and subtract " from the height. Now, cut your patterned paper to the calculated size
3) Place the paper on the table with the pattern you want to see face down, with the long edge parallel to the edge of the table. Now place a strip of permanent line adhesive (like Stampin' Up! SNAIL Adhesive) along the right edge of the paper - this will allow you to secure the 'overlap' edge.
4) Grab some double-sided extra tacky strip (like Stampin' Up! Sticky Strip) and place it along the top and bottom edge of the paper. Now adhere the paper to the jar. Make sure the paper rolls on evenly... if not, quickly pull it off the jar and try again.
Now's your chance to show some creativity... Decorate the Holder:
1) Create a Trim Piece: Select some matching card stock (or another patterned paper) and cut it to the same length as the paper you used for the jar (the jar's circumference + ") and a width that is in proportion to your jar. You may also want to add a decorative edge to this trim (like with Stampin' UP! Eyelet or Scallop Edge punch).
2) Put line adhesive on the Trim Piece. Place Trim on the jar along the upper or lower edge, or both if you prefer
3) You may also add a decorative strip of card stock in the middle of the jar by using a double-edge punch (like Stampin' Up! Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch). Or circle the jar with some decorative ribbon (like Stampin' Up! ' Stitched-Poly Ribbon). It's up to you!
4) Cut a decorative piece for the jar lid from card stock or patterned paper or punch out a decorative element (like with the Stampin' Up! 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch.
5) Finally, add the 'beauty' by placing accent elements on the jar as you choose!
Congratulations! You're done and it's time to fill your Decorative Embellishments Holder to keep your extra accents and embellishments close at hand. You'll be surprised how much easier it is to find just what you need. And because you used your favorite patterned paper, you'll be inspired every time you look at it!
