If you are considering the best way to get rid of fleas on your cat, you've probably considered a number of options...
For example, here are some ways you might have thought of to get rid of your cat's fleas:
  • You could try to catch the fleas by hand (Yes, I've done this and it's hard.
    )
  • You can also use a flea and tick shampoo.
  • Try a natural topical product or dietary supplement.
  • Use a proven topical flea killer such as Bayer Advantage for cats, or Frontline Plus (feline version).
You may be worried about using a chemical flea killer on your cat, but on one product site, 61 our of 64 users of Bayer Advantage for cats gave the product 5 out of 5 stars, and one customer shared that his cat had bad reactions to previous flea killers, but that he did not have a problem with the makeup of Bayer Advantage for cats.
The other 3 users gave the product 4 stars.
On the same site, 61 our of 72 users gave Frontline Plus a 5-star review.
6 users gave the product 3 stars or less.
The two most negative commenters revealed that they hadn't been able to totally get rid of the fleas using this product and were having fleas spread to them (the people!), too!Yikes!Don't know what happened there...
maybe it wasn't used correctly, there were a lot of new fleas reinfecting the pet, or parasites in their area were resistant to the medication.
If you have trouble with one flea control method not being effective, you can try another and most likely get better results.
If you are using "natural" approaches, you can combine methods, but DO NOT use more than one flea killer chemical product on your pet at one time.
No matter what flea control product you use, it's important to use it following the package instructions (apply every month) and also keep your living quarters and pet's bedding clean to reduce flea breeding habitat.
Also, keep an eye on your pet when you apply any new medication in case there are adverse or allergic reactions.
In my experience, Frontline has been an effective flea control product, but according to product reviews - Bayer Advantage for cats seems to be more uniformly popular for cat owners.
You'll have to make your own choice of what you want to try, and if you have problems with ineffectiveness or adverse health reactions, you can always switch to a new flea medication next month.
