If it comes up zero then you are maintaining weight, and if it comes up negative (a calorie deficit) then you are losing weight.
Unlike with your money you want to carry a deficit.
Now it takes about 3500 calories to change your weight by one pound.
That means to lose a pound per week you need eat 500 calories less than you burn each day.
If you want to lose 2 pounds per week you need to eat 1000 calories less than you burn per day.
