How to Calculate the Beneficiary Payee Amounts for Social Security Disability
- 1). Navigate to the Social Security Administration online benefit calculator (see resources for links). You may select a quick calculator that requests income information for the current year only or a regular calculator that requests income information for each year the disabled person had income subject to Social Security tax. This information may be found on your most recent annual Social Security statement.
- 2). Enter the disabled person's birth date. It is not necessary to enter the retirement date information because you are not calculating retirement benefits.
- 3). Enter earnings subject to Social Security tax. This includes income from W-2 wage jobs and self-employment.
- 4). Submit query. The result of your query returns results for an estimate of the worker's retirement, disability and survivor benefits. All benefits estimates are based on income information you provide, and the regular online calculator provides the most accurate estimate if you have all the necessary income information. The disability payment listed is the benefit amount the disabled person receives. Spouses and children eligible to receive benefits due to another person's disability usually receive 50 to 80 percent of the benefit amount.
