Creativity and Business - The Importance of Being Still

103 4
As business people and entrepreneurs, we often spend our days in a flurry of activity.
This seems like the only way to exist, knowing that we must constantly keep moving forward in our business, and after a while this movement, this momentum, feels like the normal state of being.
There is an important part of creativity, however, that must be incorporated in our daily business routine for several reasons, and that is the idea of stillness.
Those moments when we are still, when we stop moving forward, turn the churning mind off for a brief time, are the very moments when our subconscious mind has the opportunity to speak to us.
It is during those moments when new ideas can form, when breakthrough notions can happen.
The other side of this is that, when we incorporate those moments of stillness into our schedule on a regular basis, we can actually be more productive during the rest of the busy day.
Being still, even for a brief time, helps us focus and with focus, the activity during the rest of the day is much more effective.
The question then becomes how do we become still, when there is so much to do.
There are many ways to do this.
Some take practice and special knowledge, but one very easy thing that anyone can do is to schedule five minutes, first thing in your day, either just as you wake up or after you've taken your shower and had your breakfast, but before you begin the day's tasks.
Sit upright, either in a comfortable chair or on the edge of your bed.
Close your eyes and notice your breathing.
Breath in gently and easily three or four times and just notice it.
Once you do this, just imagine your body being filled with light, from the top of your head, down through your feet, then out the bottoms of your feet.
As the light fills you, it gently displaces the stress and frenetic energy.
Picture yourself glowing with this light for a bit and again notice your breathing.
Then breath in deeply once or twice, open your eyes and attack your day.
There is nothing magic about this.
You are not really glowing with light, although sometimes, when you've practiced it often, it can actually feel that way.
Both the conscious and subconscious minds love imagining things, and this is just a way to give the conscious mind something to do while your subconscious mind wakes up and starts doing what it's supposed to: feeding us ideas.
Athletes and artists all talk about the need for that moment of stillness.
If you want to bring creativity into your business, you must consider it, also.
This is not the only way to do it, but find one of the many ways that fits your personality and do it every day.
